Hi F18 sailors

Nationals
We all had some rip roaring boat breaking fun at Magnetic Island Race Week nationals. +20 knot winds made the racing exciting. Jason Waterhouse and Josh McKnight won the event with a combined score of 15. Townsville locals Mick Guinea and Mr X came second with a total score of 26, followed by Adam Beattie and Mr Y in third place with 29 points. All the results are below and great photos and stories can be found on the regatta website

Great Race this Saturday
This Saturday is the Great Race at the Sydney Flying Squadron. This part of the NSW F18 Travellers series. Carlton Brewery are sponsoring the event and are offering $5000 prize money to be shared amongst the fleets of historic 18 footers and modern 18 foot skiffs and cats. $50 entry fee per boat for racing and a barbeque dinner for two and live band. This is a bargain and the event should be a big party. The historic spectator ferry leaves the wharf at 1400hrs so be ready for boarding at 1330hrs. All food and drink needs to be purchased on board no BYO on the ferry this time. Live music and a barbeque on the wharf after the race.
You can register online or in the park on the morning. Briefing at 1300hrs. One long race around the harbour with some windward return legs. Race starts at 1430hrs. Although the race starts late boats will need to be in the water by 1315hrs. There will be many boats in the park and they need to enter the water by a ramp one at a time. It is a 30 minute sail from the club to the start line. This should be a popular race and the rigging area will be congested. No cars are allowed in the park. Trailers can be unhitch from cars at the entrance and pushed into place. Trailers will need to be parked in specific areas in the rigging area. Club volunteers will be  helping manage the chaos. I suggest High St is a good place to park without getting booked. Boats can be dropped off on Friday but if you arrive Saturday don’t turn up late.
The notice of race is on the website
www.sydneyflyingsquadron.com.au More details about the event and photos of the spectator ferry can be viewed in the SFS newsletter below.
We need to know numbers so please reply if you are coming to this event.
