NOTICE OF RACE 2008 NATIONAL FORMULA 18 CHAMPIONSHIPS Proudly Supported by TBA Saturday 26th, Sunday 27th & Monday 28th January 2008
The Organising Authority is the Australian Formula 18 Catamaran Association in conjunction with the Yarra Bay Sailing Club
Rules: a. The regatta will be governed by the current rules as defined in the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing 2005-2008, the special regulations of Yachting Australia and by the Sailing Instructions of this event. b. Rule 44.2 is changed so that the 720 deg turn is replace by a 360 deg turn
Venue and Regatta Site: a) The regatta will be hosted by Yarra Bay Sailing Club and sailed in the waters of Botany Bay adjacent to the Yarra Bay Sailing Club.
Advertising: a) The Regatta is classified as a Category C Event in accordance with Appendix 1, Regulation 20 and the Prescriptions of the AYF
Eligibility and Entry: a) The regatta is open to all Formula 18 Catamarans that have a valid measurement certificate. Nb. Measurement prior to the event may be performed by appointment only.Beyond spot checking performed by the race committee will take place during the event. b) All boats shall carry public liability insurance to the value of at least $5 million (Australian Dollars). Proof of insurance must be provided before an entry is accepted. (Originals must be produced upon registering)All boats entered are deemed to carry this insurance and it’s the skippers’ responsibility to ensure adequate coverage at all times. c) All Skippers and crews shall be full financial members of the Australian F18 association. d) All entries shall be on the attached Entry Form. e) Three entrants are necessary for an event to be contested. A Youth and Women event will be conducted where there are three or more entrants in that event. Youth and Woman shall be determined as the skipper only.
Qualifications and Selection for the 2008 Worlds Team Spain: Revised 16/10/07. World Qualification added Selection for the following event will be based on this Nationals results. a) : The top 10 places qualify for selection for the World Championships to be held in Spain in July 2008 with a remaining (TBA) allocations open to F18 Association members. If not all places are accepted, then the next highest placed sailor and/or member will be offered the place until all places are filled.
Fees: a) The series entry fee is $275.00. An early bird discount of $50 will apply to all entries received before 22nd December 2007.
Schedule of events: a) The Race Committee may run any number of races per day with some races back to back, for a maximum number of 12 races over 3 days. b) Registration will be held in the bottom bar. i. Friday 25th January 2008: Registration & welcome drinks 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm ii. Saturday 26th January 2008: Registration 8:30 am – 10:00 am c) Competitors meeting 10:30 am d) Race warning signal not before 11:00 am – Revised 08/10/07 to now read e) Race warning signal not before 12:30 pm iii. Sunday 27th January 2008: Race warning signal not before 10:00 am iv. Monday 28th January 2008: Race warning signal not before 10:00 am f) Last race warning signal not after 4:00 pm v. Presentation to follow.
Prizes: a. Prizes will be awarded to at least the first 3 placegetters. If sufficient entries for an event are not received, an event may be held but trophies and handouts cannot be guaranteed for presentation.
Sailing Instructions: a. Sailing instructions will be available from the F18 website.
Refreshments: a. Canteen & Bar will operate for lunches and after sailing snacks and drinks on all sailing days. Breakfast will be available on all days
Disclaimer of Liability: a) Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. b) See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organising authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the regatta. c) All those taking part in these races do so at their own risk and responsibility. Specific attention is drawn to RRS 2 with states: “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone”. d) The YBSC, the Australian F18 Association, sponsors, the Race Committee and other race officials are not responsible for any damage or injury either afloat or ashore. e) The YBSC, the Australian F18 Association, sponsors, the Race Committee and other race officials are not responsible for the seaworthiness of a boat whose entry is accepted or the sufficiency or adequacy of its equipment. f) The establishment of the Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions in no way limits or reduces the complete and unlimited responsibility of a competitor being solely and entirely responsible for the management of a boat he/she is sailing.
