Hi F18 sailors
Only 10 days to go before the F18 Nationals at Magnetic Island Race Week. In Townsville today it is 26o and sunny with a fresh afternoon sea breeze. I know where I would rather be. So pack your boat and boardies and head north for some fun in the sun.
Registration closes this Friday 26th August. If you have not yet entered register and pay online at https://secure.tetra-australia.com/mirw/entry_form.cfm
Event info Attached is a newsletter from the race committee with all the latest details. For all the details about race week go to the websitehttp://www.magneticislandraceweek.com.au/index.cfm?eid=927
Barge We have sponsorship for barging our boats onto the island. I have been trying to contact Mick Guinea, as I’m not sure if we have to book a time for the barge trip. The details will follow in the next email.
Rigging At this event we will not be rigging on grass or sand. The rigging area is an asphalt car park and boat ramp. You will need foam pads to protect your hulls from damage.
Social Details of the social activities are on the attached newsletter from the event organizers
F18 Association membership All competitors at the nations need to be financial members of the F18 association. To join or renew membership either go to our websitehttp://www.ausf18.org.au/MEMBERSHIP/MEMBERSHIP.html and download the forms and pay by direct debit or just fill in the forms and pay at the event. We don’t do credit cards.
Other news Congratulations to Steve Brewin who has just won the A Class worlds in Denmark for all the details go to http://catsailingnews.blogspot.com/ Young Jason Waterhouse teamed up with Brett Goodall to compete in the F16 Worlds in a Viper. They sailed brilliantly and finished 2nd behind Olympic gold medalist Darren Bundock. Well done boys! On Saturday September 24th the Sydney Flying Squadron are holding a race for 18 foot cats and skiffs to find the fastest vessel on Sydney Harbour. Carlton Brewery are donating a $6000 cash prize! Some of the skiff sailors are under the delusion that they have a chance of winning the prize against the cats. Put this date in your calendar. Details will follow.

The F18 Nationals
Everyone is getting excited about escaping the cold and heading north for fun in the sun at Magnetic Island race week and the F18 Nationals
Entry; We all need to enter !!!. At present Mick Guinea is working with regatta organisers in regards to barge transport for cars and boats. They are wanting to sponsor our nationals and are negotiating free barging to the island for F18 cars and trailers. Mick is on the organising committee for the regatta but he is having problems drumming up support as not many people have officially entered. If we all enter straight away it will make his job so much easier. I am guilty of not yet entering as I am a leave it to the last minute kind of person. I will be entering tonight because this will make the sponsorship deal a lot more appealing with more entries. The barge details will be finalised by the end of next week. Go to the website www.magneticislandraceweek.com.au and enter online.
Rego and weighing boats Each team registers and pays on line. At the regatta you pick up a registration pack that includes the sailing instructions. To sail in the nationals you need to be a financial member of the F18 association. Your last seasons membership expired in July so we will be required to renew your membership at the regatta. Boats will also be weighed at this time.
Racing All the details of the racing can be found in the notice of race at www.magneticislandraceweek.com.au Our nationals will be part of the bigger event similar to the nationals held at Geelong two years ago. Our entry fee will cover professional regatta organisation. There will be a number of media boats covering the whole event.
Accommodation The above website has all the information to organise a great regatta and holiday
Social and families Mick and his team are doing a great job organising one hell of a party. There will be something for everyone. We will be socialising with the race week yachties and each evening a party and happy hour is planned. On the Sunday there will be a huge beach party at Horseshoe Bay and we are looking at finishing early to join the day long party, buses are being planned for transport.
Presentation Dinner In previous years our presentation is a casual affair in the car park before we hit the road, but not this year. A sit down presentation dinner will be held on the Tuesday night 6th September after racing. Make sure you don’t plan to travel on the last day of racing.
More info will follow in the next few weeks but please enter ASAP

Nationals Update
25/07/11 11:52 Filed in: Nationals QLD
Attention F18 Sailors,
It is only a matter of weeks now until the F18 Nationals will be held as part of "Sunferries Magnetic Island Race Week".
Remember this event is the official qualifying event for the F18 Worlds next July in Long Beach USA.
It is important that you all register for the event via the regatta website ASAP www.magneticislandraceweek.com.au
The website has all the info you will need to plan your trip.
The regatta organisers are continuing to try and attract more sponsorship for the event and to help with this we need to register ASAP.
There are barges that run to the island many times a day and within the next couple of weeks we will announce details on how to book your barge journey.
There is still lots of quality accommodation still available to suit all budgets.
The F18 fleet will have their own race course separate to the yachts to allow an uninterrupted race course along with a professional PRO.
We will also have our own very large rigging area which will be securely fenced and well lit at night.
Registration will take place on Thursday and a welcome function is planned for Thursday night.
Friday will see a course set for the F18 for the purpose of practice / training in the race area, and allow the F18 fleet to view the yacht racing on that day.
Official racing will begin on the Saturday. Each afternoon there will be a Happy Hour on the deck at "Peppers" and this will be a great opportunity for us to explain to the yachties why we sail these great boats!
Also if you know of anyone who would like to volunteer for the event, either on a chase boat or on shore, please let me know via email.
Get your boat ready, enter via the website and come and enjoy one of the most beautiful places in the country.
We look forward to welcoming you to NQ!
